Experimental Balance Conquest Draft Open

You may have heard word of this going around - this is a tournament hosted by myself - Lux Gracetail, with the aim of both fun and a little exploration into how EBCQ works as a a metagame.

The tournament's main bracket with the exclusion of finals will be a Double Elimination best of three. The finals (losers, winners and grands) will be a best of five with alternate draft rules.

There will be an optional "Redemption" Double Elimination tournament for people who don't make it to quarters/semis.

The rules document for EBCQ can be found here.

Drafting

A set's draft has four phases.
1. Team Pick Phase: Pick four teams, each of different types, to bring to the set (without communicating with your opponent).

After locking in your choices with a tournament official, you are told your opponent’s picks.

2. You are then allowed to ban one of the opponent’s types for the match’s picking (blind ban). (The previous round's player-decided bans are reset.)

You are then told your opponent's choices by the tournament official.

3. From your remaining three or two types, you choose a team to battle your opponent with.

4. After the game, the winner of the match has the type they won with banned for the rest of the set. Return to step two if the best of three is not yet decided.

Rule Clarifications

(May be modified as the tournament progresses.)

  • The teams must be Lord teams - as knight teams are valid lord teams, knight teams are also legal.

  • If you battle multiple times with a single type in a set, you must use the team you used in the first battle (using that type).

  • However, you can switch teams between sets.

  • If a player is discovered using an illegal team, they automatically lose the battle in which it is discovered in.  If the player is discovered the using an illegal team the second time (including in a separate set), they will be disqualified from the tournament.

Tournament Details

Just a little blurb of how this tournament will run.  I expect this tournament to progress at one round per week.  The first week will include the the week the signups end and the week ending on the 28th (yes, I'm aware this is a Sunday).

For the purposes of this tournament, weeks will start on Saturday and end on Monday.  If you map this out, this allows for overlap on weekends, allowing for people to flexibly tackle the tournament schedule.

(As a note: I'm available for practice drafts - just hit me up on The Quiet Kitten, or Lux (Lucario).)

Admin Stuff

In order to maintain the tournament's integrity, the results of each match will need to be recorded. Unfortunately, there are only a few tournament officials - mostly in the Oceanic timezones (me, Potatoblaster and Mukyuuri), and thus cannot be there for every match. Thus, you are allowed to use an alternate trust-based system using spoiler tags.

Example of system in use:

[22:23:46] The Quiet Kitten: Spoiler: Bringing Ice, Steel, Fire, Fighting
[22:26:41] kudamon: spoiler: ghost ground fairy flying
[22:28:03] kudamon: spoiler: banning steeeeeeeeeeeeel
[22:32:34] The Quiet Kitten: Spoiler: Banning Flying

(However, I can still be a judge upon request.)

In addition, each set's picks, bans, results, and replays will need to be recorded in a copy of the following document:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h8nsybX_M2v_2Q38LHPd9MJUYTKs79297WpAAvX2XFU/edit

The document will need to be sent to me as evidence for the round. The easiest way to do this is to send me a message on the forum.  (Navigate to my profile by clicking my name, and then go to the contact tab.)

PS Username: SabreManectric
Timezone (GMT+?): CST (GMT-6)
Availibilty: Currently all the time from 10 AM to 10 PM but will be constrained early January to weekdays 5 PM to 10 PM and weekends 10 AM to 10 PM

Also, I'm not too sold on the whole banning thing. People who are known to use a few types selectively are never going to get to use them if they bring them to a fight.
